‘I’m not ready, yet’. True or False?
I’m just off a Zoom with one of my coaching clients.
‘I want to leave this job and work in the not-for-profit sector, instead. But I’m not ready yet’.
‘So, when will you be ready? I asked.
I love this question.
Because how often are we waiting to be ready or telling ourselves we need to ‘think about it’ or we’ll make a move when we’re ‘less busy’ or ‘more experienced’ or…. blah, blah, blah.
I hold my hands up, I’ve said those things to myself too.
But how true is all this, really?
Mostly it’s just a way of avoiding doing something that might feel uncomfortable or difficult.
My client said two things to me after I asked that question:
- I don’t think I’m experienced enough to go to the next level.
- I’m worried I won’t be able to earn as much as I do now and cover my financial outgoings.
Whenever I hear ‘I don’t think ….’ and a statement that’s a thought rather than a fact – I know that is the first thing we need to work on.
When you and I help people find more empowering beliefs that help them get closer to what they want, the rest will follow.
P.S. If you keep putting your leadership development on the back burner because ‘now’s not the right time’ you may like to make a different decision and join my Lead with Confidence programme. By July, your leadership world could look very different.
